About Ming Dao's mandatory military serviceHi everyone!
Ok, I saw this type of thread at another forum and noticed that a lot Ming Dao fans were really concerned about him going to the military. I also noticed that a lot of fans were not familiar with the fact of whether he is going to go or not, or what he will face,etc... Anyway, I hope that this isn't too off topic, but I posted a translation of Jimmy Lin's army diary at the following link:

I know this is Ming Dao's forum, so I decided not to post it here. If any of you are concerned about Ming Dao's well being when he does enter the army, are worried for him, or just want to know more about how it is in the Taiwanese military, then I HIGHLY recommend you to read this diary. It is nicely translated by one of my friends and edited by me. Regardless if you are a fan of Jimmy or not, I highly advise you to read Jimmy's diary since it will really give you an idea about what Ming Dao will have to go through when he does leave. Sure, every individual's experience will be different, but it will give you a lot of details and actual accounts about life in the Taiwanese military. Jimmy is also a singer and actor as well, so his experiences will let you know how everything will be for Ming Dao as well. Remember to let me know your comments or if you have questions, let me know ok?

just curious does every guy in taiwan have to join the military?
is it like that in other Asian countries? Because I went on Rain's forum and there were fans talking about military services also.
I dont live anywhere there so I hope someone can explain to me

If he goes, how long will it be? In Malaysia, we have national service...male and female alike have to go...but it was just started. Not everyone have to go...but after you finish secondary school that is when you're 18...they'll pick a certain number randomly to go for national service...is it the same thing? not really sure either

Yea, every boy in Taiwan has to go and serve in the military for 2 years, unless you have an injury or physical condition that does not allow you to go. Like Alec Su was excused due to his bad eye sight. It is true for some of the other countries, but there may be some differences that I am not sure about. But in Taiwan, it is 2 years. IN Korea you also have to serve as well. In Taiwan, I think the minimum age is 18. Jimmy and Benny Chen both went when they were 20. Nicky Wu went when he was 26 or 27. Ming Dao will have to go sooner or later...
Since many of you are not familiar with the military service issues, that is why I advised you to read Jimmy's army diary. But it doesn't appear that any of you are interested.
